The Visual & Creative Arts - Fine Arts Program and the Marianne van Silfhout Gallery presents Spectrums, a curated exhibition of the 2023 Fine Arts graduates. Emerging artists explore themes of identity, environmentalism, culture, and more through mediums such as oils, acrylics, mixed media, and collage.

MEET THE ARTISTS
ABBYGALE
AINSLEY
Canadian artist Abbygale Ainsley is best known for works in mixed-media, portraiture and figurative paintings. Motivated by the Impressionism, Post-Impressionism as well as Pop art movements, Ainsley’s artwork consists of a variety of colours on canvas as well as grey scale when it comes to drawing pieces. She focuses on movement, colour, and placement of objects when it come to creating them. Her series, The Anxious Mind (2023), show’s exactly the range and values she commits to. She has devoted herself to creating and furthering her knowledge about pop culture and what can be created when influenced by it. In addition, she has started practicing abstract artworks.
Aiden Garnet is an emerging visual artist and multimedia creator, born and raised in Kingston, Ontario. The Ontario landscape shaped his love for the natural environment and influenced his creative style. Aiden’s work encompasses graphic design, mixed media, collage, photography, and filmmaking. He incorporates a variety of themes and subject matters in his work including environmental justice, free love, and equality.

TAYLOR
Anne Taylor is a mixed media artist who works largely with charcoal, drawing mediums and acrylic paint. She explores themes of death, horror, fiction, surrealism and social and political injustices. She takes inspiration from Felix Dolah, Zdzisław Beksński and Maxime Taccardi, as well as other artists who take comfort in lurid and macabre concepts. Their art and designs can be found in tattoos, clothing, canvas, paper and more. She hopes to create art that not only terrifies, but also influences people to see the world differently.
LINGXIAN
YAN
Chinese artist Yan Lingxian is known for her oil paintings, wall paintings, and ceramics. Inspired by hyper-realism, classical oil paintings and traditional Chinese culture, Yan Lingshang's works has delicate brushwork and a romantic style. Her series "The Cage" shows the social and psychological problems of women that she has been concerned about and has been troubled for a long time. She is committed to showing her criticism, struggle and resistance to society through her paintings.
MATTIAS
BEECHEY
Mattias Beechey is a mixed media artist working predominantly in acrylic and oil paint, as well as small-scale sculpture. Mattias was raised in North Grenville, Ontario where they are currently based. Their artwork is bold and graphic, taking inspiration from classical art and children’s folktales. Mattias frequently explores themes of self-exploration and identity through imagery of animals and the human form. Their work can be found in private collections across Canada and has been displayed in group shows in Eastern Ontario.
